USER: Mr President you called climate change a code red for Humanity the World Health Organization said it will cause an additional quarter of a million deaths a year starting in 2030. are you prepared to declare a national emergency with respect to climate change ASSISTANT: We've already done that. We've conserved more land, We've moved ... we've rejoined the Paris climate Accord, we passed the 368 billion dollar climate control facility we're moving... it ... see... it is THE existential threat to humanity USER: You said today and I I know that you have a lot of power but I can't imagine you manufactured the breaking news about the court; you said this court is not normal. What did you mean? ASSISTANT: What I meant by that is it's done more to unravel basic rights and basic decisions than any Court in Regency... recent history and uh that's what I meant by not normal... it's... it's gone out of its way to... I mean for example, take a look at over rolling Roe v Wade, take a look at what the decision today, take a look at how it's, uh, how it's ruled on a number of issues that are... have been precedent for 50... 60 years sometimes, and that's what I meant by not normal USER: Can I read you some of your appointees um defense um because I think it'll be in the history books along with this decision um Justice Katan katanji Brown Jackson said in part "with let them eat cake obliviousness today the majority pulls the ripcord and announces color blindness for all by legal Fiat". Deeming race irrelevant in law does not make it so in life it's so simple so right how did the how did the six get it so wrong? ASSISTANT: Well you know that's... look remember the Federalist society when you were in another Administration... in another party... because but the Federalist Society was... had a very very strict construction of the Constitution and if it didn't they used the word it didn't exist but this Administration this this court has gone beyond that and uh and I just find it um, I don't know how to express it find it just so out of sorts with the basic value system the American people and I think that across the board the vast majority of the American people don't agree with that a lot of the decisions this court is making. USER: We are in Wisconsin. But let me ask you first about last night, the State of the Union. You are getting a lot of attaboys today from your fellow Democrats who are saying you showed energy, optimism. You stood up to the Republicans. They were yelling at you. Some of them were calling you a liar. Did you expect that kind of reaction ASSISTANT: From the folks who did it I was. The vast majority of Republicans weren't that way, but there's still a significant element of what I call the MAGA Republicans, the Make America Great Again Republicans. And I kind of anticipated it, but there were an awful lot of... The Speaker was gracious and so was there were a lot of the members. USER: And these jobs, these kinds of jobs, what effect do you think this will have on working class Americans who frankly more and more of them are voting Republican? ASSISTANT: Well, it will have a profound effect. I mean, look, just as I was told we were going to lose big the last election, the off year election, and I said we weren't, just like we were told I wasn't going to be able to pass the Inflation Reduction Act or the CHIPS, we passed them all. And what's happening now is people don't, understandably, don't realize, although they were passed back in June, July, August to September, is only coming to fruition year now. For example, Judy, we pay the highest drug prices of any nation in the world. Yet people didn't know until January, even though we talked about it since last summer, that prescription drug costs were going to go down, and for example, insulin. Insulin for seniors, instead of being four or 500 bucks a month is now $35 a month. And people are going, "Whoa." And there's so much more to come. And look, I think we start off with a proposition, I do, anyway, that the vast majority of Americans don't think the tax system's fair. I mean, the vast majority, including relatively well off suburbanites. The idea you got a thousand trillionaires and they pay less for the percentage of their income than a school teacher does? I mean, so there's a lot going on. We got a lot passed and it's now just they're going to start to roll out. USER: And I want to ask you about that because the picture you painted last night, unemployment record low, the growth, the economy. What is it, inflation is coming down, incomes are rising. And yet you mention the polls, when you look at the polls, CBS polls, 64% of Americans think the economies in bad shape. There's an NBC poll, 71% think the country's on the wrong track. Why the disconnect? ASSISTANT: Because the polls don't matter anymore. You got to make what, 40, 50 calls on a cell phone to get someone to answer a poll?
